Mission Statement
The mission of Walter Bickett Education Center is to provide a developmentally appropriate foundation in a safe, nurturing, child-centered environment that encourages a love for learning.
Walter Bickett Education Center is a school for early childhood students, ages 3-5. We offer nine Pre-Kindergarten classrooms, and seven preschool classrooms for children with special needs. For admission information, please contact our office.

Makiya and Ritza are reading the big book "The Jacket I Wear in the Snow" during center time. They are then retelling the story by putting the flannel pieces in order.

Children enjoy sensory play at the water table; children change the water color and rotate seasonal and science/math toys for a fun play experience!

Students in Mrs. Brown and Ms. Croutch's class were invited to participate in a special story time presented by Barnes and Noble storytellers. The children read a story about Curious George and his many adventures. Afterwards students experienced a surprise visit from Curious George. He was greeted with smiles and hugs.

During a recent unit on dinosaurs, the students in Ms. Dalys, Ms. Barbara, and Ms. Sandra's class created a dinosaur diorama, complete with a volcano. The activity combined an art project in the beginning (painting and decorating the scene) with a science lesson at the end (the students were able to "explode" the volcano by combining baking soda, vinegar, dishwashing soap, and food coloring). It was an exciting way to finish our dinosaur theme.

WBEC hosted a Thanksgiving Feast on November 19, 2009. Over 500 people came to our school to eat a scrumptious lunch of turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes, green beans, and more! Thanks to all the families that participated! Happy Thanksgiving!

Students in Mrs. Rosenbrock and Mrs. Pass' class celebrate the Thanksgiving season by designing costumes, rehearsing rhymes, and performing "Farmer Gray's Farm" for families and friends at Walter Bickett Education Center.

During our unit on spiders we decided it would be a good time to tell our friends why they are special to us. In doing so, we rolled a ball of yarn from person to person to spin our own "Friendship Web." It was exciting to see what it made and each child loved hearing compliments about themselves!
During a recent lesson on "I Like Me," students in Mrs. Sharon, Mrs. Sonia, and Ms. Gloria's class enjoyed dressing up in traditional Chinese and African clothing. We learned an important lesson in diversity!

Walter Bickett Education Center hosted an "Art Walk" on October 1, 2009. Student art was displayed around the school and families were invited to enjoy the art and have refreshments in our school courtyard. Dr. Davis and Dr. Patterson enjoyed seeing our student art and talking with students and families.
Students in Mrs. Wagner and Mrs. Bost's Pre-Kindergarten class are learning about classic fables. Students have read these stories and have then been able to re-tell the stories using props in the dramatic play center and flannel board story prompts. Students are learning cooperation, problem solving, creatvitity, and important comprehension strategies during this fun, interactive unit.
